Philosophy
My personal philosophy and aim is to lead a life of balance. The old Greeks and Hippocrates, the Father of Modern Medicine, said it: Nothing in excess, take the middle path and everything in its right measure.
I believe that the purpose of any healer, any doctor, is to teach that simply put, "we heal ourselves" through the way that we live our everyday lives. Even though the tools from a doctor's tool box can be very significant during our healing journey, a holistic lifestyle really is the foundation, if we are to feel and stay well. In other words, we are each responsible for our own health; we have the cure within us!
Professional Path
As a 4-event National Team Gymnast, I was considering a career in Sports Physiology. However, my journey as a healthcare provider began as a Dentist, DDS in Denmark. The focus of my practice was general dentistry and surgical wisdom teeth removal.
After re-locating from Denmark to Greece with my family in 1990, I began studying and practicing Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong, gradually letting go of dentistry as I was adding in more holistic healing modalities such as Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy.
For several years I was seeing clients, utilizing mainly diet & lifestyle, CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki. Plus I taught Yoga and YogaDance classes, lead workshops, as well as coordinated and/or conducted Holistic Healing Retreats, until I was called to study Naturopathic Medicine.
We left Europe in 2002 and moved to Arizona. I enrolled at the highly respected Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University and Health Sciences) from where I graduated with my second medical doctorate in the summer of 2007.
I have been practicing Naturopathic Medicine since the spring of 2008. For several years my focus was on cancer care. Another passion of mine is natural pain care and pain management, due to extensive personal experience with severe injuries from accidents.
Approximately half of the time I have been practicing in and managing my own clinics/offices in Arizona, Oregon and Puerto Rico providing Primary Care and Naturopathic Medicine, including Acupuncture, CranioSacral Therapy and Mind-Body Medicine.
Furthermore, I have practiced in group settings, taught Basic Sciences at College level, as well as been a Professor at a Doctoral Medical program both didactically and clinically. Some highlights will follow below.
The summer of 2012 I was hired by Sedona Wellness Retreat in Arizona, where Gerson Cancer Therapy was our focus, and Naturopathic Medicine our foundation. For 2 years I was 1 of our 2 physicians, caring for people with cancer, many of which were considered by mainstream medicine to be so-called terminally ill. Being a team of 17 people, we built a beautiful healing environment. Our wellness retreat guests came from all over the United States and other parts of the world as well; they would stay for 2-3 or even 5-6 weeks at a time, going through an intense and very comprehensive natural and integrative cancer treatment protocol of detox and nutrition. Beside juicing, coffee enemas and castor oil packs, we were incorporating IV infusions, Acupuncture, supplements and so much more. We were offering Mind-Body Medicine as well, such as Meditation, Yoga and Qi Gong classes, and the benefit of these practices were often quite astonishing.
August of 2014, I was invited to teach at the Naturopathic Medical College in Puerto Rico. I spent 2 years in Puerto Rico, where I was an Adjunct Professor at the Naturopathic Medicine Doctoral Program at La Universidad del Turabo in Caguas/Gurabo. The courses I created the curriculum for and taught were HEENT/Head and Neck, Ears, Eyes, Nose and Throat; Rheumatology; Oncology as well as CPR I and II (~ Clinical and Physical Rotation I and II including conduction of the Clinical Entry Exam). Once I had obtained my Puerto Rican license to practice, I was also a supervising physician at the program's clinic, instructing and assisting the medical students in their Naturopathic and Acupuncture care of our patients.
December 2018 I joined the Integrative Cancer Center An Oasis of Healing in Mesa, Arizona, where beside Naturopathic Medicine my personal emphasis was on research-based Mind-Body Medicine, as well as CranioSacral Therapy and Homeopathy. Oasis’ team was caring for people with all types and stages of cancer, utilizing an advanced and truly integrative treatment protocol. Green juices and raw living foods prepared in the on-site kitchen was the basis of treatment, and coffee enemas and colon hydrotherapy the basis of detoxing. The advanced integrative natural therapies included high dose natural IV/Intravenous therapies and Constitutional Hyperthermia, which made An Oasis of Healing unique in the world of Natural Cancer Care, attracting people with cancer from all over the world. It’s beyond belief what can happen, once you apply all the necessary healing tools to someone’s journey with cancer.
In June of 2021 I returned to Puerto Rico, again joining the Naturopathic Medicine Doctorate degree program at UAGM as a Professor and Clinical Supervisor overseeing and guiding our students caring for patients in our Naturopathic Medicine clinic.
After another year in Puerto Rico I returned to United States the summer of 2022 and joined Advanced Functional Medicine in San Diego, a well established practice in which our team is focusing on natural treatment of diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, thyroid disease, hormonal imbalance and much more.
As a Naturopathic Physician, and a Yoga Teacher, I have seen great benefits from the marriage between Nature, Science and Soul. There really is no separation between the three; they work hand in hand.
I love what I do, and would love to assist you on your path!
